Description

Develop accurate passing, receiving on the move and close control when dribbling and turning. Players also practise moving backwards while keeping their eyes on the ball and the next player.

Divide players into groups of 4–5, with one ball per group. Split each group as evenly as possible into two lines facing each other.

  1. Player 1 passes to player 2, who steps forward to meet the ball.
  2. Player 2 dribbles towards the opposite line, turns and passes back to player 3.
  3. After passing, player 2 moves backwards to join the line behind player 4, staying facing player 3.
  4. Player 3 passes to player 1, who steps forward to receive and repeats the sequence in the opposite direction.

Coaching Points

  1. Meet the ball: Step towards the pass and take a controlled first touch into the dribble.
  2. Keep it close: Use small touches so the ball stays within reach, especially when turning.
  3. Look before passing: Find the receiver and play an accurate, well-weighted pass along the floor.
  4. Stay connected: Move backwards with short, balanced steps, keeping the ball in view. Check the space behind before moving.
