Description

Develop possession play by using supporting players to create passing options and escape pressure. Players practise protecting the ball, finding passing angles and reacting quickly when possession changes.

Divide players into two teams of 2–3 inside the playing area, with bouncers positioned outside along two opposite sides.

The teams compete to keep possession, using the bouncers as support. Bouncers always support the team in possession and must pass back into the area; they cannot pass directly to another bouncer. Rotate bouncers regularly.

Coaching Points

  1. Bouncers: control and release: Use the sole to receive and play with as few touches as possible.
  2. Create passing angles: Bouncers should move along their side to offer a clear passing lane.
  3. Pass away from pressure: Aim towards the receiver’s foot furthest from the defender, helping them protect the ball.
  4. Move after passing: Find a new position to support the next action, especially after playing to a bouncer.
  5. React immediately: When possession is lost, close down the ball and block passing options. When it is won, spread out and offer support.
