Description
Set up a Y pattern with four cones with one starting player at each cone. Adjust the distance to the age and skill level.
Player 1 passes into player 2, who receives, turns with the ball and plays to player 3. Player 3 drives the ball back to the starting line. On the next repetition, player 2 passes to player 4 instead.
Players follow their pass: 1 moves to 2, 2 moves to 3 or 4, and 3/4 dribble back to the start.
Player 2 can turn using the inside or outside of the foot, depending on the direction of the turn.
Progressions
- Player 2 and player 3/4 combine with a one-two pass before 3/4 drives the ball back.
- Player 2 plays a one-touch bounce pass back to player 1, who then plays directly into player 3 or 4.
- Limit player 2 to two touches: one to turn, one to pass.
- Add a passive defender behind player 2 to encourage scanning and a sharper first touch.
Coaching Points
- Use the correct foot and surface when turning: inside or outside of the foot.
- Good quality and timing of passes.
- Move directly after the pass.
- Dribble back with control and purpose.
