Description

Create a square using 4 cones.

Place at least one player at each of the 4 cones and one extra at the starting cone. Additional players can be placed behind any of the cones.

  1. Player 1 passes a diagonal pass to player 2.
  2. Player 2 plays back to player 3.
  3. Player 3 plays a diagonal pass to player 4.
  4. Player 4 plays back to player 2.

Move to the next cone after each passing combination.


Coaching Points

  1. Create a good passing angle before asking for the ball.
  2. Time the return pass so the runner receives in stride.
  3. Move immediately after passing; do not stand still and watch.
  4. Keep the tempo high, but prioritize accuracy and clean technique over speed.

Progressions

  1. Change passing direction.
  2. Progress to one-touch passing for more advanced players.
  3. Mandate that players use only their weaker foot for passing and/or receiving.
